Howdy everybody,
I hope everything has been fantastically awesome for you, things have been trucking slowly along here in London. We faced a lot of discouragement and disappointment this week, but it's only because we gotta keep working harder and push through these trials; Heavenly Father calls 'em tests. I read in the September issue of the Ensign magazine that the Lord blesses us, wherever we are and whomever we are, as we serve him and love him with all our heart, might, mind, and strength. I know that is true. Heavenly Father is not punishing any one of us and He is not holding blessings back from us, the Lord is "no respecter of persons" and He loves each of His children equally. How much of His love and His blessings you experience depends entirely on His will and your obedience and ability to faithfully endure. I see the results of being obedient and faithful compared to being disobedient and doubting on a daily basis, I couldn't go 24 hours without showing my Father in Heaven I love Him and trust Him!
So the reason I mentioned humility is because I found the best definition of what is humility is NOT!!! It's in a talk titled "Pride and the Priesthood" by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, he says, "Humility does not mean convincing ourselves that we are worthless, meaningless, or oflittle value. Nor does it mean denying or withholding the talents God has given us. We don’t discover humility by thinking less of ourselves; wediscover humility by thinking less about ourselves. It comes as we go about our work with an attitude of serving God and our fellowman." That is the definition I lived by for far too long, please don't do the same as I did. Don't degrade yourself and belittle your divine identity by telling yourself you are not good enough or by chipping away at your self-esteem. After a while, you will find that you have little to no confidence in yourself by following such a blind habit. Rather, remember you are (and always will be) "nothing" as the scriptures put it, yet "something" to the Father. Never forget who you really are.
I know I talk about that quite a lot, but it is something that I hold very close to my heart. If we forget who we are, then who are we? We lose any possibility of true happiness and love if we lose sight of our true identity. Humility is not meant to be a degrading self-destroying process, it is meant to fill us with the love of the Savior as we turn outwards and live like He would and to give us the possibility of experiencing indescribable joy in this life. Keep on keeping on and push through the sea of voices that tell you that you are nothing at all and listen to the choice few who tell you who you truly are. As you do, you'll be much happier. God find someone to share a smile with, spread some light and love in person or on the internet, do something for someone else!!!
Much love,
Elder Crow
