October 17, 2016 Apostles and Transfers

Hey everybody,

This week wasn't very eventful until the weekend, then things got poppin' lockin' and polka dottin'! On Saturday we had Elder Stevenson, one of the 12 Apostles, and Elder Uceda, a member of the quorum of the 70, come speak to the whole mission. I had an awesome time seeing past companions and mission friends, so many of those guys have changed my life! But it was even cooler to hear from a modern-day Apostle. Elder Stevenson is a funny guy and a powerful speaker, the Spirit was in the room the whole meeting and it was very peaceful; not overpowering, no one was passing out or getting put into spiritual comas, but it was awesome.

Something that Elder Stevenson spoke about that I really liked was when he brought up a section from Preach My Gospel called "A Successful Missionary". In it, and this is the part he talked about, he said that we don't have to measure our success based on numbers or because of how great other missionaries are doing, you can know you are doing good if you feel the Spirit. It's that simple. We, not just missionaries, make these huge expectations for ourselves that we feel we have to accomplish in order to be someone. But the Lord's expectations are much simpler than ours. In the words of Elder Bednar, "If today you are a little better than you were yesterday, than that's enough."

Oh and we got transfer news! Elder Clark is heading out to Western Kentucky and I will be staying in Beaumont. My new companion is Elder Conlin, I don't know him too well but I'm excited to meet him!

July 25, 2016 Baptisms and Blessings

Howdy everyone,

I can't believe it's already been another week, so much has happened and for some reason I'm gonna tell you! So this transfer(6-week time period) just ended and Elder Bragg and I will be together for 1 more transfer until I leave London! I can't believe I only have a month and a half left here, this town has gained a special place in my heart over the last several months I've been here! In the way of other announcements, I can't remember if I already told y'all, my mission will be getting Facebook in August, I don't know why but I'm sure Heavenly Father has miracles awaiting us; I don't know all the details but you'll know 'em when I get 'em. And, most importantly, Gabby was baptized this last week!!! Oh I can't describe the joy a missionary feels when he/she sees their efforts to bring someone closer to the Savior accepted! She had a huge grin on her face the whole time and we filled our teeny relief society room with 30-some odd people, it was awesome! Then, yesterday, we confirmed Gabby a member of the church and gave her the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 8 or 19) and she asked me to do it. It was such an honor and it felt so wonderful sharing something so special with her; as I've reflected on my time in London it occurred to me how much good we've done. The world and the devil would have you first remember your weaknesses and your failures before anything else, but Heavenly Father would have you look at the good you've done for others and the successes and strengths you have (no matter how many or how few that may be)! It's especially easy as a missionary, for every good thing we do or success we have there is 10 times the failures and trials to pop up and say, "Hey remember me?!" But when that happens you punch Satan in the face by putting on a smile and remembering you are a beloved son or daughter of God!

Heavenly Father made such a beautiful plan for us all to come to this earth and the Savior of us all did what no one else could do so that we don't have to remember our trials, our mistakes, our pains, or any of it! He suffered for each of us personally so all we have in front of us is happy times and smiles; that doesn't mean trials won't come but it means He's already gone through it so you have someone to be with when you have to go through it. I have personally felt the Atonement of Jesus Christ change me and help me to become clean, to become someone I never would have expected I could be. And it is still changing me. That's the beautiful part of the Atonement, it never ends, it is an "infinite atonement" as a Book of Mormon prophet puts it. As the final triumphant piece of the Atonement, the Son of God was resurrected. I was reading about it in Luke this week and came across my favorite scripture about this event; Mary Magdalene comes to the tomb and finds it empty then turn to find 2 angels standing next to her. They say to her in verses 5 and 6 in chapter 24: "Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen...". How wonderful are these words!! Can you imagine what it must have been like for all of us looking down from our Heavenly home and shouting for joy upon seeing Jesus' triumph over death! This is the day every man, woman, and child received the hope and possibility of coming back home to our Heavenly Father again someday! Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Redeemer of our souls! He is my Savior, my best friend, and the best big brother there is. He loves you, every single on of you! It doesn't matter who you are or what you've done, He only cares about who you can become and what you can do.

Changes in London June 13

Hello Everyone,
So this was the last week of this transfer (6 week time period) and on Saturday we found out what would be happening to Elder Parks and I. It looks like Elder Parks will be heading to Madison, IN and I will be staying in London training a brand new missionary!! I think the world is getting a bit scarier if they are letting me train a new missionary and see what kind of monster I can create haha! So all of you currently serving or returned missionaries eading this email, GIVE ME SON ADVICE haha!!! But I'm pretty excited, I'll end up staying in London for about 3 more months, but I know Heavenly Father is needing me here for some reason! This past week was awesome with Elder Parks! He wanted to leave London with a BANG so we set a goal to talk to 160 people this week and we exceeded it! Now I'm not saying those contacts went very well but hey, they happened! We had a lesson with Gabby yesterday with some awesome members, the Harms. We watched a video about the restoration of Christ's church, it's called Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration ( watch it here: https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/2011-03-01-joseph-smith-the-prophet-of-the-restoration?category=feature-films&lang=eng . Every time I have asked to know if Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, I have been told time and time again that he is! Gabby told us that she believes he restored the church of Jesus Christ and she believe the Book of Mormon is true!! I showed her a picture of the Birmingham Alabama temple and her face lit up; she's going to Alabama for a couple weeks in July and she said she's going to visit the temple as soon as she can! It is so amazing to watch the gospel change someone's life to something so beautiful and joyful, I have had many opportunities to see that on my mission. This past week I had lots of time to think about the blessings the gospel brings to families, mine in particular. In church and at a missionary zone meeting this week I was reminded how blessed my family is to have been raised and reared in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I particularly thought of the blessing it is to serve a mission and do for other families what has been done for mine. I thank my Heavenly Father that so many ages ago he sent 2 missionaries knocking on the door of my mother's family's home, and that there was a man strongly-willed and determined to help my dad get back in church/ The blessings that have come from their decision to live the gospel and become members of this church are immeasurable!

I gave thought to this awesome Father's Day (God Bless It!!!) when we have the opportunity to give our dad's just a little thanks and praise for all that they do. It makes so much sense to me why we are put into families with a mother and a father. We all came from one huge Heavenly family, so when Heavenly Father decided to send us here to earth he organized us into families. God is a God of order and love, he wants us to have the opportunity to be reared in a loving home, to learn about and follow Jesus Christ, and to learn how to love EVERYONE!! I am grateful for my mom and dad, who took so much time (and the patience) to raise my troubled self. Dad especially, he has no masculine support or presence in his house right now besides the Holy Ghost. Keep trucking dad, keep trucking. Haha but in all seriousness, I have the best dad on the earth. Don't care what anyone else says, mine wins. My dad has supported me through thick and thin, he has shaped my life and my personality through the skills and abilities he has engrained in my soul. I saw a quote this week on another church's billboard and I wish I would've taken a picture. It said, "God gave me the greatest gift ever and I call him dad!" My family really is my greatest earthly blessing, or at least very close to it.

What kind of men should we be? We learn in the Book of Mormon in 3 Nephi 27:27 as Jesus speaks to his disciples: "Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am." I am grateful for a father here on earth who emulates the ability to love as Christ loved and serve as Christ served, I consider myself beyond blessed to have a man to look to here on earth whom I can learn from and follow as I seek to learn from and follow the Savior. I know that God's love for us is so great that He sent His beloved Son to live a perfect life then to give it up so that we could become clean and live with him again someday. I know that while we are here He has placed us in families so that we may be happier than ever. God the Father lives with His son Jesus Christ standing on His right hand. I an eternally grateful for everything I have to thank Him for and the blessings He continues to give me.

Happy Sunday June 6

󾓦Happy late Memorial Day everyone 󾓦
God Bless 'Merica as the hillbillies would say. Wow, this week has been so amazingly wonderful and crazy! It has been at least 75 every day this week, it even gets past 80 when it is raining, and we've had so many people to talk to! Thanks to Heavenly Father putting so many people in our path, Elder Parks and I talked to 145 people this week! Most of the people aren't too interested in what we have to say, it makes me so sad that a people who care so much about Christ are so quick to shove us off and judge us for our religion rather than take the time to realize what we are doing. But that's their choice, can't change it. I can only bring a flashlight into this dark world and shine my light wherever I go. It may not be very big, but it's enough. And if we all shine our lights together, then we can really make a difference.

Well the most awesome wonderful part about my week was yesterday. We had a church service called stake conference. It's when a generalized area of LDS congregations meet together for a church service and we hear from a few members of the church. My congregation, or ward, stayed at our building in Corbin because it's too long of a drive to Lexington. And I was reminded that technology is a blessing and a curse!!! The sound and the connection of the church broadcast was pretty terrible and I was afraid it wouldn't go to well, I was especially afraid because Gabby came to church for the first time and I wanted it to be a good experience for her. It ended up being AWESOME!! My mission president, President Brough, and his wife spoke and they are such powerful speakers! After church ended, Gabby looked at me and Elder Parks and told us he knew the church is true!! I was so happy I felt like sprinting a few laps around the church, but I help my cool together. It is so amazing seeing the gospel change people's lives and see the joy it give them, I can truly testify with all my heart and soul that this church is true and that it is lead today by the living Son of God, Jesus Christ!

Sister Brough, President Brough's wife, spoke about standing. That sounds kinda funny but let me explain. In the church, we stand a lot more than we think. We have STANDards that we live by, we STAND up for what we believe in, we STAND up for what is morally good and true, to name a few. So let me add my testimony to standing. There is a scripture that states, "stand ye in holy places, and be not moved". If we are true followers of Jesus Christ, we will "not [be] moved" as we stand for what we know to be true. Growing up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I didn't have a lot of members around me, most everyone I knew went to some other church and believed differently than I did. So when it came up that I am a Mormon, I had plenty an opportunity to stand up for my faith and my Savior. Since my youth in Alabama I have came to this conclusion, I will never stop standing up for what is right and what is true. For as long as I live and breathe I will stand, and I invite you to do the same. Never give in! If it takes a cane and pair of braces I will always stand for my Savior Jesus Christ. Each one of us has an unspoken responsibility to STAND up. So stand, do all you can to keep standing; and when you feel like you can't? You are surrounded by those who will help you to keep standing. Jesus Christ will always be the living Son of the living God Almighty, Joseph Smith will always remain the prophet of the restoration, and The Book of Mormon will always be the word of God. I know it. And I know God knows it, and I will not deny it.

Suffering Patiently May 30

Good afternoon everyone!
Sorry I'm sending this off so late, but everything here in London is
slow moving or closed for Memorial Day so I didn't get to use a
computer at the library. And I hope all of you on this email list who
are not full-time missionaries have spent/are spending as much time as
you can with you families. Be grateful for your family members, you
never know how much you miss them until you can't see them every
single day. But enough about that, I hope it is bright and sunny
wherever in the world you are 'cause it is so nice here in London
(except for this exact moment because it decided to cloud up and that
not cool)!! It's been at least 75 every day this past week and Elder
Parks and I have been working enough sweat up on the bikes to make the
whole state of California green again! But I can't complain, I'd
rather be blazing hot and sweeting than freezing cold and dying. And
missionary work always picks up in the spring and summer, it's
awesome! There's so many people to talk to, and most of them seem to
be nicer, than usual, so yay sunshine!

So I read something this past week that I wanted to share with all of
y'all. In Preach My Gospel (a book to help missionaries be better
missionaries) I read this sentence about patience, "Patience is the
capacity to endure delay, trouble, opposition, or suffering without
becoming angry, frustrated, or anxious." And I thought that was a
pretty great statement, but I wanted to know what the definition of
endure was. So I looked it up and it means to suffer patiently. I had
a profound thought at this point, and that is that we are not promised
we will live a life free of trial or adversity, in fact we are told
just the opposite. But the world's definition is much different from
the Lord's. The world would have you "suck it up" and push through it
just hoping you'll make it through. On the other hand, Heavenly Father
asks us to hold out just s bit longer; keep trusting in His plan, keep
being faithful and it will all be alright very soon. The world tells
you to trust in yourself, while Heavenly Father asks you to trust in
Him. Just as it says in Proverbs" Trist in the Lord with all thine
heart and lean not to thine own understandings". I would much rather
follow the wisdom and counsel of a loving, all-knowing God rather than
the reasoning and thinking of a person such as myself. But that's just
me.

As we "suffer patiently" we are promised reward without measure and
comfort without end, but we are require to suffer; whether that be
great or small is all part of Father's plan for us. If you are willing
to humbly recognize the trials and temptations "that so easily beset
you" as a growing opportunity, life will be much more pleasant. As it
says in the scriptures, "For after much tribulation come the
blessings." Heavenly Father cannot reward us after 5 seconds of
tribulation, otherwise we wouldn't be able to grow at all! We are here
on earth to grow, and the only way to grow is to face opposition. The
strongest trees in the world endure the worst storms and the most
bitter cold and blistering heat. So it is with each of us. The
strongest people are those who have been put through the worst trials
and the most painful afflictions.

As a missionary it is essential to have patience. I recently read back
over a favorite scripture of mine in the Book of Mormon. For those of
you who don't know it I'll break it down. There are 4 sons of a
righteous king who go about the land preaching the gospel of Jesus
Christ and helping others to live like Christ. Much to the displeasure
of their father, the king, these 4 brothers go to share the gospel
with a people known as the Lamanites. In today's world, it would be
the equivalent of me going to preach about Jesus Christ to ISIS. For
14 YEARS, these brothers toil and labor and do everything they can to
bring these people to know their savior and redeemer. They are beaten,
stoned, imprisoned, whipped, starved, and tormented in every physical
way possible. But by the end of their 14 years of service, they
baptize tens of thousands (maybe even more) of these wicked people and
help them know their savior. You and I are not required to endure such
hardships. We are only asked to "suffer patiently", to trust in the
Lord's plan, to trust in Jesus Christ and believe that all will be
well in the end and wait for His promised blessings. Do not be so
quick to look at all your trials but be quicker to count your
blessings. I've tried it myself and I know it brings a smile to my
face each time and allows me to press on even in the toughest of
times.

May 23 Work Miracles

Good afternoon everyone,
Sorry I'm getting this out late but we went on another hike with
Brother Harms and it was great. We do so much p-day hiking it's
awesome! Well this week has been really great! We hit every one of our
goals except for 1 or 2 and Heavenly Father has blessed us for it! We
set daily goals with how many people we want to talk with that day and
there were so many rainy days this week  it felt like we wouldn't be
able to talk to anyone. But Heavenly Father prepares a way for us to
reach our goals whenever we set them and work as hard as we possibly
can. We are meeting a lot of people who either think we are crazy or
awesome for being so willing to go out and witness about Christ. And
honestly we may be drained by the end of every day, but it is honestly
so satisfying to be so dog-tired by the end of each day.

So we had a really cool experience this last week. We got a gift card
from a member for a restaurant called Fazoli's so we went to eat there
and email. When we walked up to order the cashier saw our name tags
and said," Are you guys Latter-Day Saints?" Most people usually call
us Mormons or Jehovah witness so we were surprised, but we told her we
were and she said,"I've got some questions for you guys, id like to
learn more about your church." We were completely taken back, that's
never happened to me haha! So we've met with her a couple times this
week and she really does want to learn more, it makes me so happy to
see someone who truly wants to make an effort to understand and learn
about what I am teaching them.

Putting forth our best effort is honestly one of the most sure fire
ways to qualify for Heavenly Father's blessings. How much more willing
is a parent to give their child a Popsicle or a treat if they mow the
lawn or vacuum the house? So how much more willing is Heavenly Father
to bless us if we read our scriptures each day or if we say our
prayers with our family? And as missionaries, we cannot expect to find
people prepared to hear the gospel if we sleep in when we're supposed
to get up or if we come in early from proselyting to relax. In D&C 82
it says," I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do
not what I say, ye have no promise." Heavenly Father ALWAYS blesses
obedient children. Especially when we are willing to do a little more
than we are asked; no matter how hard it may seem to keep God's
commandments, the reward is always worth the wait and the effort.

Dear Everyone,

Hello! I hope you are all doing wonderful and I hope your week was fanstantastic! This week was packed with spiritual awesomeness! On Wednesday we went to Lexington to hear from Elder Kopsichke of the Seventy. For those of you who don't know what that is, it is a man who is called and ordained just like the Seventy men Christ called to preach the gospel in Luke Ch.10 . So we got to hear from a modern-day member of the Seventy and his wife. They are from Germany but they speak great English and they are great! Lexington was meh, I like small towns better than a jam-packed crowded city. I learned so much from Elder and Sister Kopischke I can't put it all in one email, I am still reviewing the notes I took! But while I listened to them speak, I couldn't help but feel the love and the spirit that radiated from the 2 wonderful individuals. It is amazing to me that everything in Christ's original church is back, He may not have had any buildings but the organization is completely restored today! I am beyond blessed to have this gospel in my life, and to share it with everyone I see. Something Elder Kopischke shared really stuck out to me. He told us that each one of us made choices in the life before this that determined where we are now. And we chose our families! So stop for a moment one of these days and just look at the ones you love so much and thank Heavenly Father for what you have. Every one of us have blessings we often forget about.

Other than that, this week has been jam-packed with walking. Yes walking. On Saturday I was working with a missionary from another area and with a young man who works with us on Tuesdays and Saturdays. So I was the only 1 of the 3 who knew London so the entire day's work and plans were leaning on me. We probably walked over 5 miles in just a couple hours haha. I don't know how much they appreciated me after that but we got to talk to a ton of people and even though most of them weren't interested I know we still did everything I could to offer them this amazing message about Jesus Christ.

Quite honestly I was able to apply something that I myself taught about during a meeting in church yesterday. I gave a talk about adversity and I was able to personally testify of the Lord's helping my family through each one of my dad's deployments overseas. I realized that I have kinda switched spots with my dad. I am the one wearing the uniform, working in a foreign country, doing crazy things I never would have thought of, serving a mission. Is it hard? Yes. Is it challenging? In every way possible. Are there days that just beat me to my knees? You better believe it. But as I walked away from a conversation with a rude man a thought came to my mind, "You are not alone, I am here." So is this difficult, challenging, taxing mission worth it? There isn't a thing on this earth that can make me believe otherwise. I pray that each one of you will be able to recognize that even in the toughest times and in the darkest times of your life YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Every trial and temptation, every hardship and adversity is worth it. Because then we will do everything we can to appreciate and work for the days filled with smiles, blessings and happiness.

Dear Mom,

I greatly enjoyed my Sunday as well, I actually got to speak in sacrament meeting! For the first time on my mission, almost a year out, and this is the 1st time I've ever been asked to speak so I was super happy. I just love giving talks and teaching lessons. So I was quite new to the church's policy about praying for my talk topic, but I did so and felt inspired to speak on adversity. I walked up to the pulpit ready to use the book the Danielsons gave me and True to the Faith and a ton of scriptures and general conference talks, but I only ended up using 2 general conference quotes and speaking from my heart the rest of the 10 minutes I had. I was overcome with emotion as I recalled our family's hardships during dad's deployments, it was touching to share it in my talk but it really made me realize just how much Heavenly Father loves us for looking out for us so much during those years. I can't imagine how you did it, it must have been so hard. But I'm glad you did it, it made us all stronger.

Something else that happened this week was Elder Kopischke of the 70 and his wife came to the GKLM!! We had 3 of the 6 zones in the mission in 1 stake center, I saw some old friends but almost everyone I know is in the other half of the mission haha! I was so thoroughly impressed with Elder Kopischke's knowledge of the scriptures, his ability to teach by the Spirit, and how much love radiated from him. I took 4 pages of notes and it is so hard to soak everything in from what he shared with us, our zone conference was 6 hours long (with lunch). At the very end, Elder Kopischke opened it up to us missionaries for questions. That very morning, the Holy Ghost prompted me to think of a question I would ask Elder Kopsichke if he asked for questions. I thought he would just speak the whole time but nevertheless I thought one up. So I kept trying to raise my hand but other missionaries kept beating me to it! Finally, Elder Kopischke said, "Ok, President Brough do you think I could take 1 more question before we wrap this up?" And President Brough said, "Absolutely, and I know the missionary who asks this question is the best missionary in the mission!" I knew he was joking, that's just President Brough, but now I felt really awkward raising my hand. But I wanted to have my question answered so bad my hand shot up after he said it. I felt so red when every single missionary in the chapel turned around to see who had raised their hand, I am not even close to being the best missionary in the mission! But I asked Elder Kopsichke,"How do you feel we can best invite the Spirit into every aspect of missionary work?" And his answer seemed to me the answer to anything we want the Holy Ghost invited to," 1)Be as obedient as you can, 2)Be as pure as possible, 3)Plan as effectively as you can, and 4)Work as hard as you can." I felt the Spirit fall upon me as this servant of the Lord looked so intently into my eyes and spoke with such love, there is no doubt in my mind that he is a man of God.

Afterwards, I thanked him and Sister Kopischke for coming, then I thanked President and Sister Brough for their trainings. Sister Brough was the last one I spoke to, she shook my hand and said, "Oh thank you so much for coming. We love you so much Elder Crow, we hear such wonderful things about you from other missionaries!" Once again I think this is the part of the Lord's calling old people to preach the gospel where age interferes with wisdom, haha I'm kidding. But her words touched my heart and I couldn't help but be grateful for such an amazing blessing to be serving in Kentcuky.

Last thing. This morning, we had a senior couple come and inspect our apartment. They were both greatly impressed at how clean we kept our apartment and in my mind I was like," Yeah! Every hour of cleaning at home was worth it! Thanks mom, all the nagging paid off!" Haha I love you so much and I hope everything is going well for you. I can feel the strength your prayers give me and it means so much to have a loving family back home.

2016 May 9 Warming up and Raining

Heller youfers,

I hope everyone is having an amazing week and if not I pray it will
start getting better! This week has been nuts! Most days it has been
up in the 70s and it has been really sunny and pretty, Kentucky is so
green I love it! We just got done doing a ton of geocaching with
Brother Harms. He is a ton of fun to be with, and geocaching makes my
head hurt its almost like trying to understand Isaiah. But we had a
ton of fun (and we hopefully don't have any more poison ivy than we
already do). The rest of the week has been really stormy though. We
had to come in early because we severe storm warnings coming in and I
have never been so soaked in my lifetime! For car missionaries we use
our bikes a lot and there are a lot of positives and negatives to
that! We get to talk to a ton of people but we are subject to whatever
Mother Nature has to throw at us. Maybe Heavenly Father is subtly
hinting that I need to bathe more...

Haha this week has definitely been pretty tough, we are finding a lot
of people who believe in fire and brimstone and believe we belong
there! It has been very trying for me this week to remain patient and
to find an ounce of love for these people. But if Jesus can do it, I
should be trying! I read a talk this week that said, "When...trials
are not consequences of your disobedience, they are evidence that the
Lord feels you are prepared to grow more." Heavenly Father's purpose
for us being on this earth is for us to learn and grow! How can we
learn if we do not make mistakes, how can we grown unless we fail a
time or two? How can I become more patient and loving unless I meet
people who are neither patient or loving? How can one learn to samba
unless they practice and have awesome teachers (that's you Jill and
Joe)? How can one do anything unless they try it out and put a little
faith to test?

We are not meant to struggle and fight tooth and nail for happiness,
it is the essence of God's plan for us to be happy and to STAY happy.
But He does not force us to be happy, He has given us the gift to
choose. Every choice we make can be boiled down to 2 choices, good or
bad; light or dark; happy or sad. We have placed before us every day
the CHOICE to be happy. So why not choose it? Who in their right mind
wants to be flipping discouraged and sad the whole day? Everyone wants
to be happy. It is so simple, live the gospel! Read the scriptures, go
